Grand jury indicts BR man, 21, in slaying
An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury charged a Baton Rouge man Wednesday in the Feb. 14 shooting death of another man at Choctaw Drive and North Acadian Thruway.
Erick Dewayne Scott, 21, 1259 Columbus Dunn Drive, was indicted on charges of second-degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, that being marijuana.
Scott is accused of shooting Kevin “Gus” Johnson, 21, while Johnson sat in a vehicle at a stop light.
Police have said the motive for the killing appears to be a previous altercation between the two men.
A second-degree murder conviction would carry an automatic sentence of life in prison.
The case has been assigned to state District Judge Chip Moore.
