BR man charged in roommate’s slaying

A Baton Rouge man was indicted Wednesday in the March 15 shooting death of his roommate during an alleged fight in their Sycamore Street home.

An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury charged Lonnie Charles Johnson Jr., 33, with second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the death of Bobby Rowe, 57.

Johnson has a previous conviction for attempted possession of cocaine, the indictment indicates.

A second-degree murder conviction would carry an automatic sentence of life in prison. The case has been assigned to state District Judge Richard Anderson.
