School supply drives set to help students

Community-wide “Stuff the Bus” school supply drives will be held in Lafayette and Abbeville in the coming weeks to benefit local students.

The drives are organized by the United Way of Acadiana in partnership with Lafayette Surgical Specialty Hospital and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Abbeville.

The Lafayette drive is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Lafayette Surgical Specialty Hospital, 1101 Kaliste Saloom Road, organizers said.

Another drive will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 18 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Community Outreach Center, 100 W. Vermilion St.

“United Way of Acadiana is committed to helping more children enter school ready to learn,” Keler Williams, United Way of Acadiana director of volunteer mobilization, said in a news release.

“Having the appropriate supplies is essential in preparing students for school and supporting teachers in instruction and curriculum,” Williams said.
