Denham Springs councilman arrested in DWI

State Police arrested a Denham Springs City Councilman on suspicion of drunken driving early Sunday, a State Police spokesman said.

Christopher Davis, 36, was booked into Livingston Parish Jail around 5:30 a.m. on one count each of first-offense DWI, hit and run, careless operation, no driver’s license on person, no insurance and flight from an officer, Trooper Russell Graham said.

Davis got into an accident near La. 16 and Amite Church Road and drove away from the scene, Graham said.

Davis drove to his home at 717 Kennedy Ave. in Denham Springs, where troopers took him into custody, Graham said.

There were no major injuries, Graham said.

Davis bonded out around 4:15 p.m. Sunday, Livingston Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lori Steele said.

Email and phone messages sent to Davis and calls to Mayor Jimmy Durbin was not returned Sunday.

Davis began his term on the city council in January 2011. He unsuccessfully ran for Livingston Parish Council this past fall.

Davis, a Republican, serves as liaison to the city’s Street Department.

This is the same clown that ran for the Parish Council and got beat by the incumbent much to the Mayor's chagrin. Looks like the voters made a good choice in Harris.

We have so many DWI's in this state and it goes on and on until about the 3rd, 4th or 5th DWI when someone dies. You would hope that at least a city counsilman would be much more intelligent and responsible than this!!! To have someone that irresponsible making decisions for one of our (small) cities is bad enough but as a public official he is also a role model. Now with all of the arrests of police and other public officials lately this is just another horrible example for our youth! In addition, no one seems scared enough of the consequences of endangering other people's lives while driving intoxicated--not even someone in the public eye. Remember the judge that got caught driving drunk a while back? Why should anyone stop when there is nothing to fear and everyone's doing it? It just keeps going and going! I am scared for all of the innocent drivers and passengers in this state!!

Most DUI's don't get looked at too hard until they've killed someone. He'll drive drunk for a while longer then he'll kill an innocent family before doing more than paying a fine. He won't even lose his license. They'll give him a "hardship" license. He should resign from his position as councilman.

This guy will skate on the DWI charge. His lawyer will use the defense that he was sober, and when he got home he had several drinks to clam his nerves...Not Guilty!
