Gautreaux to speak to new chamber group

East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux
will speak at the Chamber of Commerce of East Baton Rouge Parish’s monthly meeting Tuesday at Cafe Americain on Jefferson Highway,
the chamber’s chairman
said.

Gautreaux will discuss the causes of crime in the parish, what his office is doing
about it and what business owners can do to help fight it, Woody Jenkins, the
chamber’s chairman, said Sunday.

A reception starts at 11:30 a.m., and a luncheon begins at noon, Jenkins said.

The meeting is open to
business owners, elected officials and media, Jenkins said.

The Chamber of Commerce of East Baton Rouge Parish formed in late May to represent small business interests, Jenkins has said.

In case anyone has not noticed, Sid"s office is doing nothing to fight the crime. One must first fight the crime within its own department, before it can achieve anything outside that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now he wants to give raises?????? Gee Sid, guess that means your salary will go up and for what reason? All your political promises have not come to pass, this being the second time you made those promises!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looks like you are not a man of his word, just false statements and promises, and lets not forget the corruption within the Sheriff's office, Capt Harris, Capt Young, Jenkins, Pitre, Lilly, Bush, McAllister and lets not forget the TART step-daughter who posed a a treasurer of a HOA and played "FUNNY MONEY!!!!!!!!!

To join you are required to sign the following mission statement (printed on the application): “To promote free enterprise, individual rights, limited government, traditional family values, character, education, patriotism, national defense, and high ethical standards for business.” I don't necessarily disagree with these points but they are more in line with the founders' affiliated political organizations not a small business group.

Movingon - then if you did your research you should have also shared that Woody Jenkins is NOT the sole decision maker of the direction this new chamber is heading in. And you are certainly entitled to your opinion but it doesn't make it right or accurate. Gary - yes, many small business owners are people of faith and concerned about how government (whether city, state, or federal) impacts their business.

This appears to be a poorly disguised klan meeting.

movingon, that's pretty interesting. I had never realized their stand on so many issues that like you say really have no right being the concern of a chamber of commerce. Thanks for the heads up. Your comment made me go look.

I very briefly considered joining the new chamber until I read their mission statement. No local business chamber should be so consumed with national political talking points that have a minimal impact on local (or national) business.

Will Woody Jenkins be talking about how members of this chamber must be committed to Woody Jenkins' definition of family values? Will Cecil Cavanaugh call the BRAC socialists again?

This new parish wide Chamber sounds like they could be carrying the H20 for the Tea Party and Family Forum folks - I get very nervous when Mr. Jenkins heads up anything - I remember his support of Mr. Duke in the governor's race back in the early 90's..
