No charges filed in December shooting
LAFAYETTE — A Lafayette Parish grand jury Wednesday found no evidence of a criminal act in the Dec. 9 officer-involved shooting that left 21-year-old Quamaine Mason dead.
The grand jury returned a no true bill in the case against the officer involved in the shooting.
Mason was shot by a 13-year veteran of the Police Department after the officer responded to a call about an armed robbery at an apartment complex in the 200 block of Theatre Drive.
Louisiana State Police, the investigating agency, said at the time that officers said Mason was armed with a handgun at the doorway to an apartment when officers arrived on the scene.
State Police said Mason engaged officers before he was shot.
Lafayette police have declined to release the officer’s name.
