Shay duplex fire investigated as arson

Firefighters are investigating a suspected arson that occurred early Thursday at a duplex on Shay Avenue.

Firefighters were called to the duplex at 5:33 a.m. to find a fire inside the unit at 12350 Shay Ave., Fire Department spokesman Barry Mounce said.

The fire caused extensive damage to the unit and spread to the adjoining unit at 12352 Shay Ave., Mounce said.

No one was at either unit when the fire broke out, Mounce said.

Authorities book 3 on suspicion of DWI

Authorities arrested at least three people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and 2:30 p.m. Thursday, booking records show.

Those booked and the counts against them:

  • Alford Keidrick, 28, 334 Plains Port Hudson Road, Zachary, first-offense DWI and open container.
  • Caitlin Driscoll, 21, 5165 Etta St., first-offense DWI and other laws of the road.
  • Bryan Williams, 39, 2666 Theodosia Drive, first-offense DWI, failure to signal/improper turn and improper lane usage.
