Calif. man arrested; DNA linked to rape
A Los Angeles man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly raping a woman and threatening to kill her and her baby 25 years ago in Baton Rouge, an arrest warrant said.
DNA evidence was used to match Alfred James Carter, 58, 1220 S. Olive St., Los Angeles, to the June 25, 1987, crime, the warrant said.
Carter is accused of placing a sharp object against the victim’s face and pulling her to the floor of an apartment on Sharp Lane, the warrant said.
He then reportedly put a towel over the woman’s face and gagged her with a small jumpsuit that belonged to her then 2½ -year-old child, the warrant said.
Carter allegedly tied the victim’s wrists together behind her back and tied up her legs, according to the warrant.
He is accused of cutting the victim’s swimsuit off of her and raping her three times, the warrant said.
Officials with the California DNA Data Bank recently contacted the Louisiana State
Police Crime Laboratory and told local officials a sample from the victim’s sexual assault kit matched Carter’s DNA, according to the warrant.
Carter was subsequently arrested and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a count of aggravated rape.
Authorities book 2 on suspicion of DWI
Authorities arrested at least two people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Monday and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, booking records show.
Those booked and the counts against them:
- Wayne Crawford, 35, 16724 Morel Ave., first-offense DWI and failure to obey a stop sign or yield sign.
- Sean Middleton, 24, 15665 Malvern Hill Drive, first-offense DWI, failure to maintain control, criminal damage to property, possession of drug paraphernalia and text-messaging prohibited.
