Man booked on gun, drug counts

Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force officers arrested a Paincourtville man on weapons and drug charges.

While conducting surveillance and patrols Thursday, task force officers stopped Justin Fair, 29, of 171 Miles St., because he was loitering in a public roadway, Sheriff Mike Waguespack said in a news release.

Fair then allegedly threw a handgun and fled the scene. After a short foot chase, Fair was apprehended in possession of marijuana and three magazine rounds for the handgun, the release states. Agents then recovered a .40-caliber, semi-automatic handgun.

Fair, who has a previous felony drug conviction, was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center with fourth-offense possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm with drugs, illegal possession of a firearm by a felon, resisting an officer and loitering.

When I was falsely arrested for carrying at Tanger, some steroid-infested "law enforcement officer" was strutting around the Gonzales police department with my .357 in his hands. " I can't believe you were walking around with a LOADED .357 in Tanger." Gee, what good would an UNLOADED one do anyone?

@ markedwardmarchiafava, His weapon of choice was a automatic with 3 spare clips. Probably one in the gun = 4 full clips of ammo. Kind of overkill, don't you think? Unless, of course, he can't hit the broad side of a barn. Or maybe he's a hit man? All that I know is that no one in their right mind will be loitering in the road with that much firepower.

Ya' ever notice how The Advocate and all other media outlets assist the law enforcement community in demonizing guns? If the media would report all arrests fairly, they would mention whether or not some poor sap busted for minor traffic tickets also just happened to be in possession of HIS weapon of choice.

Loitering in the road, .40 cal. semi-auto pistol with 3 extra clips, possession of pot, flight from officers, and illegal possessing a fire arm by a prior felon. Way to geaux, deputies! One less no good bum off of the street - for a little while, anyway. Maybe they saved someones life.

Ya know, if this were truly a free country, you could loiter anytime you want, possess anything you want, bearing arms the whole time.

Indeed, I've made a mental note to leave my gun and drugs at home during my loitering time!

Best as I can tell, Fair was merely minding his own business, harming no one.
