Juvenile arrested in June shooting

Assumption Parish sheriff’s deputies have arrested a juvenile implicated in a June 27 drive-by shooting.

Sheriff Mike Waguespack reported Thursday that deputies received a complaint of a drive-by shooting on La. 400 at a home with two adults and five children inside. No one was injured as a result of the shooting.

Deputies received what Waguespack termed “a very good description of the suspects.” Along with evidence found at the scene, detectives were able to track down a 16-year-old juvenile who was arrested and booked with assault by drive-by shooting.

Detectives were able to locate the vehicle used in the shooting, which had been reported stolen, shortly after the shooting. They were still working to identify the driver of the vehicle.

The juvenile, whose name was not released, was being held at the St. James Youth Center.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is encouraged to contact the Assumption Sheriff’s Office Detectives Division at (985) 526-1627 or the Communications Division at (985) 369-2912.
