Deputies find girl, 4, alone on Le’Violon Road
A 4-year-old child was found walking alone in the 300 block of Le’Violon Road just outside of Scott early Sunday, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
A passing motorist spotted the girl and reported the incident to deputies, said Capt. Kip Judice, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrived and began a door-to-door canvass of the area, Judice said.
At 10:30 a.m., about five hours after the child was found, deputies found an open rear door to a home in the 100 block of Logan Street, Judice said.
Two adults, identified as the girl’s primary caregivers, were sleeping in the home, Judice said.
The child is believed to have wandered outside through a locked rear door and made her way to Le’Violon Road, Judice said.
No arrests were made although investigators plan to submit a report to the District Attorney’s Office, Judice said.
The child was taken into state custody by the Office of Child Services, which will continue to monitor the child’s welfare, Judice said.
