Fire chief: Arson damages elementary school

An arsonist torched a classroom and an outdoor shed at Bakersfield Elementary School on Saturday, according to Baker Fire Chief Danny Edwards.

Firefighters responded to the call about 7:45 p.m. and extinguished the flames in about 15 minutes, he said.

The fire caused about $30,000 to $50,000 in damage, he said.

Officials will review the school’s surveillance footage, Edwards added.
