Businesses warned of scam

The Zachary Police Department on Thursday asked the public’s help in locating a man suspected of operating a “quick change” scam June 22 at the Zachary Walmart store, Police Chief David McDavid said.

The man allegedly spent about six minutes at a cash register while getting a new cashier to make change for him several times, the police chief said.

After the man left, store officials determined he was able to get away with more than $1,500 by confusing the employee, McDavid said.

Anyone who recognizes a photo of the man recorded by the store’s security camera system is asked to call the Zachary Police Department at (225) 654-9393.

Being Stupid: That was kind of my point. To get $1500 from ONE register, it had to take quite a while. The cashier had to be in on it. I mean, after let's say 5 minutes and he keeps saying the wrong amount was given or whatever, you would think the cashier would have noticed all the money in her drawer being depleted. And also, that guy knew which register to go to...

The old "quick change and distract" scam. Give you a 50 for a pack of gum. Then when they get the change back, they act all confused and say oops I meant to give you a 5 not a 50, I need that 50 back. Well you have to buy something else. How about I give you another 50 and you just give me a 100, because I would rather just get a 100 and you can keep the other 50. Then after they get the 100 for the 50, they say they dont need all this change. How about I give you these two 20s and change you just gave me, plus the 50 I just gave you and give me another 100. Anf before you know it you give away 1500 dollars.

The employee didn't realize at some point that their drawer was empty?!?! It had to be, $1500!!! That man picked the right register to go to as I am sure that it is very rare for any single register to have that much money. And to get away with $1500!?!?! How long did that take??? That employee should be fired and also investigated. Letting someone they know that their register had a lot of money in it and for them to hurry and come "confuse" her!
