Honoré , educator set to receive awards
The Louisiana Council on Human Relations will award its annual Oliver/Sigur Award on June 30 to Ret. Lt. Gen. Russel L. Honoré and Marjorie Green.
The awards will be presented at a joint meeting of the Louisiana Council on Human Relations and the Baton Rouge Council on Human Relations at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, 9700 Scenic Highway.
Honoré is widely known for his work coordinating military relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast. Green worked as a teacher and administrator in East Baton Rouge Parish for 30 years.
The awards are given out annually in honor of James R. Oliver and Monsignor Alexander O. Seguir.
Oliver was a chemist and computer science guru at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Seguir served in the diocese of Lafayette.
