Deputies seek man in assault at store

Detectives are searching for a man accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Wednesday at her job, a Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said.

Walter Allen, 46, is accused of going to his ex-girlfriend’s place of employment, a local store, at about 8:30 a.m. and assaulting her, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said in a news release.

Hicks said Allen pulled the woman into a stockroom and held her there against her will while customers shopped in the store. He then grabbed the woman by the neck, threw her down to the ground and wrestled her cellphone out of her pocket, Hicks said. During the fight, Allen bit the woman on her left forearm, Hicks said.

Allen ran away shortly after and was seen in the Kingston Place Subdivision, Hicks said. Allen left his vehicle and was last seen running through the campus of the Scotlandville Pre-Engineering School.

Allen is described as a black man, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 200 pounds, with a low hair cut and a dark skin complexion, Hicks said. He was last seen wearing desert-cut Army fatigues.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest. Allen will be booked with domestic abuse battery, false imprisonment, simple robbery and unauthorized entry of a business, Hicks said.
