FERRIDAY — A day after a boat crashed into a pier in Concordia Parish, search teams found the body of the boat’s passenger under the wreckage of the pier.
The body of Larry Allen, 52, of Pearl, Miss., was discovered late Sunday morning in Lake St. John, about 12 miles northwest of Ferriday.
People who saw the wreck about 12:15 a.m. Sunday pulled the driver, 50-year-old Bruce Pickle, of Ferriday, from the water and tried CPR before an ambulance arrived, said Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries spokesman Adam Einck.
Pickle had been thrown from the boat.
Bystanders didn’t know someone was under the wrecked pier.
Wildlife agents were called later Saturday with a report that Allen might have been in the boat, and search teams had to remove the collapsed pier to find Allen’s body.
Neither man was wearing a life vest, Einck said.
He said the Concordia Parish Coroner’s Office has the bodies for autopsy. Agents don’t think alcohol or drugs contributed to the wreck, he said.
