New interim police chief appointed in Walker

The Walker Board of Alderman voted unanimously at a meeting Monday to appoint Walker Police Capt. Marliam Lee as interim chief, a Walker police spokesman said.

Lee replaces Hunter Grimes, who resigned May 31 after taking a job with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Capt. John Sharp said in a news release.

Grimes’ resignation took effect Monday morning, Sharp said.

Lee, a 25-year veteran of the department, will serve out the remainder of Grimes’ term, which ends Dec. 31, Sharp said.

“I look forward to the challenge of serving as Chief of Police alongside such dedicated men and women,” Lee said in the release.

Grimes assumed office in 2005 and was re-elected in 2008.

Grimes has said in part of his resignation stems from a strained relationship with Mayor Bobby Font. He has said his requests for more officers weren’t granted because of those tensions.

Yes ... poor, poor Hunter Grimes didn't get to spend all of taxpayer dollars exactly how he wanted, everything else be darned.
