Dad drowns trying to save his children

A father has drowned rescuing his three children in a Texas lake.

Grand Prairie police said Jesus Castaneda, 32, was sitting on the beach at Joe Pool Lake about 20 miles southwest of Dallas on Sunday afternoon when he saw the floatation device carrying his three children flip over in about 10 feet of water.

Castaneda, the children’s mother and a bystander jumped into the water. In a statement, police said all made it safely back to shore except Castaneda. He had slipped beneath the water and did not resurface. No one was wearing life jackets.

Fire department divers pulled Castaneda from the lake’s bottom about 35 minutes after receiving the call. Immediate life support was given and he was taken to the hospital, but did not regain consciousness.

The guy is a hero. The ultimate sacrifice to protect his children. Sad story.
