Lafayette Police investigate fatal shooting
LAFAYETTE — Detectives are investigating the early Wednesday morning death of a 22-year-old Lafayette man who was shot at least once, Lafayette police said.
Police spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton identified the victim as Isiah Morgan, of the 2500 block of Louisiana Avenue.
Officers found Morgan’s body at the intersection of Goldman and Division streets at 12:30 a.m., Mouton said.
Witnesses told police the victim was arguing with another man when the assailant produced a handgun and fired one shot, striking the victim, Mouton said.
One or two people were outside when the shooting occurred, Mouton said.
The shooter is described as a 6-foot-3-inch-tall black man with a slender build who ran away, Mouton said.
“We have some very good leads on this,” Mouton said.
Mouton did not say where the victim’s gunshot wound was or release any more information.
Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fight, Mouton said.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (337) 232-8477.
