One dead in Florida Blvd. crash

Police investigated a fatal crash in the 12400 block of Florida Boulevard on Monday after a motorcycle ran into an SUV, a Baton Rouge Police spokesman said.

Harold Irvin Anderson, 42, 9191 Fontaine Road, Maringouin, was driving a 2003 Suzuki GSX motorcycle westbound on Florida around 12:05 p.m. when a 2010 Volvo XC90 SUV, driven by Sandra Coco, 51, of Cummings, Ga., which was headed east, made a left turn in front of Anderson to access the north service road, Sgt. Don Kelly said in a news release.

Anderson applied his brakes, but he lost control and slid into the side of the SUV, suffering fatal head injuries, Kelly said.

Anderson was wearing a helmet, but authorities are not sure if it was properly secured, Kelly said.

Coco and her 81-year-old female passenger were not injured in the crash, Kelly said.

Kelly said that alcohol was likely not a factor in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.
