Houma man killed, 2 injured in I-10 crash

Troopers investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash Saturday morning on Interstate 10 about a mile east of the Interstate 10-12-59 junction in St. Tammany Parish, a State Police spokesman said.

Bobby Lott Jr., 38, of Houma, was driving a 2007 Ford Mustang west on I-10 around 7 a.m. next to a 2009 Ford Fusion driven by Joseph Butler, 30, of Gulfport, Miss., Trooper First Class Nick Manale said in a news release.

Lott began drifting to the left side of the highway into the grass median for about 300 feet before overcorrecting and returning to the pavement to hit Butler’s Fusion, Manale said.

Both cars overturned several times and left the roadway before coming to rest on the north side of the interstate, Manale said.

Lott suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, Manale said.

Butler and his front-seat passenger, Janelle Butler, 34, received minor to moderate injuries and were taken to a hospital, Manale said.

All three people were wearing seat belts during the crash, and alcohol is not a suspected factor, Manale said.
