Groups seek books for elementary students

LAFAYETTE — United Way of Acadiana and television station KATC will hold a “Day of Literacy” book drive Thursday to collect new and gently-used books for first- and second-grade students across Acadiana.
The community-wide book drive is in partnership with local school systems to help foster early grade literacy. First- and second-grade books are preferred.
Books may be dropped off Thursday at the following sites:
- Lafayette Parish, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.: United Way of Acadiana, 215 E. Pinhook Road, Lafayette.
- Acadia Parish, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Acadia Parish School Board, 2402 N. Parkerson Ave., Crowley.
- St. Martin Parish, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.: St. Martin Parish School Board, 305 Washington St., St. Martinville.
- Vermilion Parish, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Vermilion Parish School Board, 220 S. Jefferson St., Abbeville.
- Iberia Parish, from 8 a.m. to noon and 1- 4 p.m.: United Way of Iberia, 449 E. St. Peter St., New Iberia.
- St. Landry Parish, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.: St. Landry-Evangeline United Way, 311 W. Vine St., Opelousas, and St. Landry Parish School Board, 1013 E. Creswell Lane, Opelousas.
