Trust set up for daughter

Relatives of the bicycle rider struck and killed Jan. 20 on Perkins Road have established a legal trust for the man’s daughter, the man’s brother said.

The trust consists of a savings account in the name of the daughter, Katherine Coburn, who is a minor, and a donation checking account in the name of the late Nathan Crowson, Matthew Crowson said.

Both are based at Capital One Bank, and anyone wishing to donate to the trust can contact any Capital One Branch, Matthew Crowson said.

Crowson, 30, was riding a bicycle with another cyclist, Daniel Morris, on Perkins Road near Quail Run Drive when Joseph Branch, 28, allegedly hit both cyclists, killing Crowson and sending Morris to a hospital.

Branch’s blood alcohol level during the crash was 0.307, or nearly four times Louisiana’s legal limit to drive a vehicle, police have said. An adult’s breath-alcohol analysis of 0.08 percent is considered presumptive evidence of drunken driving in Louisiana.

Matthew Crowson said family and friends believe Daniel Morris will be leaving the hospital soon. Crowson did not specify how soon.

Morris awoke from a medically induced coma on Jan. 27, Matthew Crowson said.
