Elementary school receives book grant

Capital One, in cooperation with the Lafayette Education Foundation, presented Ossun Elementary with $2,000 for the school’s literacy project.

The money will be used to purchase books for struggling readers and assist educators in their goal of increasing the percentage of students reading at or above grade level by third grade, according to a news release.

Student dancers
perform Wednesday

“Danse de la Louisiane,” presented by L.J. Alleman Middle School dancers, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Acadiana Center for the Arts.

Students will present the evolution of dance and its direct relation to Louisiana culture.

Dance styles to be explored include French-European ballet, Spanish flamenco dance, modern, Cajun and hip-hop.

Grant applications
sought from teachers

The Lafayette Education Foundation is now accepting applications from Lafayette Parish teachers for its two grant programs. The deadline to apply is March 9.

The nonprofit organization provides two grant opportunities: classroom grants, which affect a single class with a maximum award of $1,000; and a school impact grant, which can affect a grade level, subject level or entire school with a maximum award of $5,000.

Teacher workshop
on Shakespeare set

The Acadiana Center for the Arts will offer a workshop for teachers of grades 5-12 titled “Storytelling and Shakespeare: Find Your Frame” from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 28.

The workshop will be presented by Justin Zsebe.

Registration is $7 to $12.
