Woodlawn student, 18, booked in beating

Authorities arrested an 18-year-old Woodlawn High School student accused of beating up a 15-year-old student in the school’s locker room, an affidavit of probable case says.

At 1 p.m. Thursday, Jaleel Gillard punched the 15-year-old in the face several times and pushed the student, causing the student to fall over a wooden bench and hit the floor, the affidavit says.

Another student videotaped the fight with a cellphone, the affidavit says. Several people could be heard in the background begging Gillard to stop hitting the victim, the affidavit says.

Gillard, 8011 Jefferson Park Drive, was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count each of simple battery and cruelty to a juvenile.
