Denham Springs man hit, killed on La. 16
A pickup struck and killed a Denham Springs pedestrian lying on La. 16 on Wednesday night, State Police reported Thursday.
According to a State Police news release, a 2006 Toyota pickup, driven by James Cowell, 46, was headed south on La. 16 in the outside southbound lane when it struck the pedestrian, identified as Darwin Carson, 47, of Denham Springs.
Carson, pronounced dead at the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office, was identified through fingerprint analysis by State Police Crime Lab technicians, troopers said.
Cowell was using his seat belt at the time his truck struck Carson and was not injured.
Impairment was not a factor on Cowell’s part, troopers said.
It was not immediately known if alcohol or drugs were a factor for Carson, but troopers submitted a sample of his blood to the crime lab for chemical analysis.
Troopers did not issue any citations in connection with the incident.
