St. Martin deputies
book 2 in drug case

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotics unit arrested two men on drug counts Friday after deputies found a clandestine crack cocaine laboratory in a home on Maraist Street, according to a sheriff’s news release Monday.

Francis Jacob was arrested on counts of creation of a clandestine laboratory within 1,000 feet of school property, manufacture of crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law and possession of drug paraphernalia, the news release said.

Gabriel Simon was arrested on counts of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine base, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law, transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses and resisting an officer by flight, the release said.

110-mph run ends in arrest, deputies say

NEW IBERIA — The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a New Iberia man Sunday after deputies saw him allegedly driving a motorcycle at speeds of about 110 mph on East Admiral Doyle Drive, according to a sheriff’s news release Monday.

Deputies pursued the driver, later identified as Justin W. Shaw, 23, to a residence on Marie Street, the news release said.

Shaw was arrested on counts of aggravated flight from an officer, felony reckless operation of a vehicle and resisting arrest, the release said.

Shaw was released from the Iberia Parish Jail after he posted a $5,000 bond.
