Woman burns hands in stove-pot fire
BAKER — A Baker woman suffered minor burns on her hands early Friday while trying to extinguish a fire in a pot left on her stove, Baker Fire Department spokesman Howard Ward said.
The fire in a mobile home at 3838 Thomas Road was reported at 1:38 a.m., and firefighters found that the woman had thrown the pot from the stove into a sink. Drapes on the kitchen window received some fire damage, Ward said.
Firefighters removed the smoke from the trailer after making sure the fire was extinguished.
The woman did not require medical attention for her burns, the Fire Department spokesman said.
Ward said the best way to extinguish a fire on a stove is to turn off the heat, clap a lid or a larger pan on the burning pot and leave it in place for at least a half-hour. If a lid or larger pan is not available, baking soda or a portable fire extinguisher, rather than water, should be used to put out the fire.
