A Louisiana film every month
The Pointe Coupee Parish Historical Society begins its “Last Friday Louisiana Film Series” on Friday with the 1947 movie “New Orleans,” a music-filled tribute to the birth of jazz featuring Louis Armstrong, Billie Holliday and others.
Each of the dozen free films in the series will be screened at 7 p.m. on the last Friday of every month in 2012 at the Julien Poydras Center. All of the movies were made in Louisiana and depict life in the state.
A membership meeting
The Pointe Coupee Electric Membership Corp. is holding its annual membership meeting at noon Wednesday at Scott Civic Center in New Roads. Registration and free health screenings will be held from 9 a.m. until noon.
Drawings will be used to select winners of the 2012 continuing education scholarships offered to high school seniors, and endowments will be presented to the 4-H programs in Iberville, Pointe Coupee and West Baton Rouge parishes.
Welcome the bowlers
Business owners and staff are invited to learn about the U.S. Bowling Congress, at the “Seein’ Red Training” event to be held at noon Tuesday at the West Baton Rouge Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The program will help prepare the community to welcome Bowling Congress participants when they come to town between Feb. 11 and July 9 for 151 days of bowling competition. Lunch starts at 11:30 a.m. and costs $7. Please RSVP.
Holy Family open house
Holy Family School will salute Catholic Schools Week with an open house from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Holy Family Catholic Church.

Lunch with an author
The public is invited to the West Baton Rouge Museum for a free lunchtime lecture and book signing with author Ann Butler at noon Wednesday.
Butler, the author of the book “Country Roads,” will share images and stories about historic highlights along La. 1, the state highway that traverses 12 parishes from the Arkansas-Louisiana border to Grand Isle.
The art of Mardi Gras
The Krewe de Poydras invites the public to attend “The History and Artistry of the New Roads Mardi Gras” presentation at 7 p.m. Feb. 3 at the Julien Poydras Center in New Roads. Wearing Carnival masks is strongly encouraged.
A football reunion
Volunteers are needed to help former Rougon School six-man football players organize a reunion. Call Ted David at (225) 627-4250 between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 9 a.m. and noon on the weekends if interested.
Wild game cook-off
