Special education program offers free outreach for families
The Winter Wonderland Parent Outreach session will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 12 at The Literacy and Technology Center, 9261 Florida Blvd., Walker. Free outreach will be available for families who have children ages 3 to 21 that receive special education services and/or are in the gifted and talented program in the Livingston Parish school system.
At the event, parents can learn more about the services, programs and events the Livingston Parish Special Education Department offers.

WOW fireworks
Women Outreaching Women is selling fireworks to raise funds to provide emergency housing and program services to women and their children fleeing domestic violence. WOW Discount Fireworks will be open Dec. 15 through Jan. 1 at 26852 4-H Club Road, Denham Springs (½ mile from the Racetrac on Florida Boulevard.)
The fireworks stand is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. until there are no more customers on Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Lane closure
The westbound lane of La. 64 in Livingston Parish will be closed from La. 1019 to the Magnolia Bridge in Denham Springs beginning at 8:30 a.m. Monday, weather permitting.
The closure is for construction of the new Magnolia Bridge and approaches.
Westbound traffic will be shifted to the center lane to allow crews to widen the existing roadway to add travel lanes and construct the new bridge approaches. Westbound traffic will remain in the center lane until the bridge work is complete and traffic can be shifted onto the new bridge.
Motorists should expect intermittent delays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists may use U.S. 190 as an alternate route.

Christmas parades
The Denham Springs Christmas Parade will be at 2 p.m. Saturday. The entry deadline has been extended and the late fee has been waived. The theme is a Star-Spangled Christmas in honor of Grand Marshal Benton Thames.
Other Christmas parades in the area are: Springfield, Monday; Livingston, Saturday; Albany, Dec. 12; and French Settlement, Dec. 17.
