Child Advocacy Services will offer training for its Darkness to Light Stewards of Children program Friday at the North Oaks Livingston Parish Medical Complex, 17199 Spring Ranch Road, Livingston.

Stewards of Children is an award-winning program that teaches adults how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse, organizers said. This program offers training on seven steps to protect children from child sexual abuse. In addition to prevention training for individuals, the full program includes tools for organizations in developing policies and procedures for sexual-abuse prevention.

Chef’s evening

Tickets are still available for Denham Springs Main Street’s annual Holiday Chef’s Evening and Wine Tasting Event on Dec. 1 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Local chefs located in shops in the Antique District will prepare special foods. Wine will be provided by Republic National Distributing Company.

Tickets can be purchased in advance and are $25 per person. They are available at Taste of LA Café, 105 N. Range Ave., Denham Springs. Only 300 tickets will be sold. All proceeds benefit Main Street Denham Springs.

Raffle tickets for the Cottages for Court Appointed Special Advocates are on sale. Tickets are $10 and offer the buyer two chances to win a playhouse. The drawing is scheduled for Friday at the Child Advocacy Services’ regional office.

Science Saturday

The Laser Interferometer Gravitational Observatory will host “Get Inspired at LIGO Science Education Center” from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in Livingston.

Youth are invited to “Table Top Science — Dinner Fun,” during which they can discover science experiments to do while waiting for dinner and learn about density, sound and the effects of hot versus cold, organizers said.

Visitors to Science Saturday will have the opportunity to tour the facility and talk to a LIGO scientist or science specialist, organizers said. In addition, visitors can explore and interact with more than 40 LIGO science concept exhibits, including 12 new exhibits related to sound that were added in July. The event is free.
