Bobby L. Garantine, 53, was pulled from the partially submerged car and transported to St. James Hospital in Lutcher where he died from his injuries, Trooper First Class Jared Sandifer said. Garantine was driving just south of Blind River when his car went off the road shortly after 2:30 a.m., but Sandifer said he was not sure if Garantine went into the river or another body of water. Garantine was not wearing his seat belt, Sandifer said. Troopers are unsure if alcohol played a factor in the crash; toxicology samples were submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
