Anne Milneck, who has owned the spice store for two years, said the new location will be a 10-foot by 10-foot stall, across from Fresh Junkie Salads + Wraps and the Lamar Community Kitchen. Milneck said she’s been looking at opening a downtown location since she bought the Red Stick Spice Co. “It’s a good fit for us, being there on Saturdays with the farmers market,” she said. Leasing a space in the market was a way to accomplish this. “There are so many services in place, like electricity and Wi-Fi, we can just roll in and open,” Milneck said. The Main Street Market location will be open Monday through Saturday. It will carry a selection of the most popular seasonings from the Red Stick Spice Co.’s Jefferson Highway location. All of the seasonings will be pre-packaged. While the satellite Main Street location won’t offer some services provided at the Jefferson Highway store, like refilling bottles of flavored oils, it will offer a larger array of artisanal jams, jellies and syrups, Milneck said. “We think having an expanded line of this made sense for downtown,” she said. The Red Stick Spice Co. has been open for about 4½ years. Copper Alvarez, executive director of the Big River Economic and Agricultural Development Alliance, which oversees the Main Street Market and the farmers market, said Red Stick Spice Co. is “a great fit” because it sells high quality, locally made spice blends, oils and vinegars that can’t be found anywhere else.
