Acadiana crime blotter for Aug. 22, 2014

An Acadia Parish grand jury has indicted two juveniles as adults in an investigation of an attempted murder on April 26 in the 1200 block of Jacobs Avenue, Crowley Police Chief K.P. Gibson said Thursday.

“During the initial investigation, multiple rounds were fired into a residence which was occupied by 5 people,” Gibson said. “Police believed at the time of this incident that the two juvenile suspects were involved, yet did not have probable cause to arrest them.”

About a week later, both suspects, ages 15 and 16, were located and discovered to be carrying concealed, semi-automatic handguns, Gibson said, and they were booked on illegal possession of firearms and other charges.

“Our officers sent the weapons along with evidence to the Acadiana Crime Lab for ballistic testing,” Gibson said. “After the testing was completed, we were advised that the weapons matched the physical evidence from the April 26th shooting scene.”

An Acadia Parish Grand Jury returned indictments on Aug. 12 against Jamurick Robinson, 15 of Crowley and Bryan Jones, 16 of Crowley, as adults, on five counts of attempted second degree murder. Both are were arrested and are being held into the Acadia Parish Jail.

Pandora Robinson of Crowley and Tameka Jones of Crowley also have have been booked into the Acadia Parish Jail for improper supervision of a minor, Gibson said.

Two accused in burglary of department store

An 18-year-old and a 16-year-old accused of burglarizing an Iberia Parish department store early Wednesday have been arrested, according to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Louis Ackal said deputies responding to a report about a burglary at Roses Department Store, 1150 W. Admiral Doyle, arrived to find a broken window at the store and a person standing outside.

As deputies approached the person, who was wearing black pants, a black hooded sweatshirt and had a white piece of material concealing his face, the person fled on foot but was captured a short distance away, Ackal said.

The suspect was identified by deputies as a 16 year old male, but a thorough search of the store did not turn up a second suspect, Ackal said.

The juvenile was then taken to patrol headquarters where detectives learned the identity of the second suspect, Tyron Mitchell, 18, who was located at his residence and taken into custody.

Deputies booked Mitchell into Iberia Parish jail on counts of simple burglary and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. The juvenile suspect was booked with simple burglary, resisting by flight and possession of burglary tools.

Carbon monoxide leak prompts evacuation

Edgar Martin Middle School cafeteria workers were evacuated early Thursday after carbon monoxide was discovered leaking from one of the stove burners.

Four employees were taken to the hospital, saying they were dizzy, and one passed out, authorities said. Students were not in the cafeteria.

A bag lunch will be given to students today, and they will eat in their classrooms until an all-clear for the cafeteria is given by the fire department.

A robo-call went out to parents informing them of the incident; class will be dismissed at the normal time. All of the workers are expected to be okay, officials said.
