Each year, over 1,600 Pre-K-2nd-grade students, who could benefit from one-on-one tutoring with a caring adult, are recommended by their teachers to participate in Everybody Reads. Reading Friend volunteers are recruited, screened, and trained by VIPS, and is asked to meet for 30-45 minutes with the student on a consistent basis during the school year. Math Friend volunteers meet with a first-, second- or third-grader for 30-45 minutes weekly using instructive tools from the VIPS Math Bin to help improve a child’s math skills.
