Saints daily briefing: Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014

After spending Wednesday’s practice under the lights at Mandeville High School, the Saints head back to their training facility for Thursday’s session. The only problem is that the session will be held behind closed doors, out of sight from fans.

While the public might not like it, it’s not the worse thing for the team. Temperatures were a little cooler Wednesday night, but the heat index got up to 101 during Tuesday’s practice.

Today’s practice, coach Sean Payton said, will be about preparing for Saturday’s game against Indianapolis.

ABOUT WEDNESDAY: Jairus Byrd is back. In his second practice since being cleared for full action, the safety intercepted two passes and broke up another intended for tight end Jimmy Graham. It was an important step in his recovery from a back injury. It’s too soon to say he’s ready to go full bore, but seeing him make some plays built confidence.

ON TODAY’S AGENDA: The 11:30 a.m. session will be held indoors. It is not open to the public.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Cornerback Keenan Lewis too part in Wednesday’s practice and did not appear to be limited. The session was held in shorts and shells, so it will be interesting to see if keeps up the same level of activity when the team wears full pads.
