A TEEN’S TAKE: Ashton Maggio on pageants

“I have only competed in three pageants in my life and haven’t done so in years. But the opportunity to make new friends and earn scholarships appealed to me. Pageants allow me to develop my confidence, challenge myself and earn money for my education. I am honored and humbled to have been chosen.”

Extra: Ashton Maggio, a varsity basketball and volleyball player and an honor student, will be representing Louisiana in the National American Miss Pageant in Hollywood this Thanksgiving. She was crowned during the state pageant in June. She wants to become a physical therapist.
