Jada White, of West Feliciana High School in St. Francisville, was named the most outstanding scholar during the Engineering Summer Institute at Southern University in Baton Rouge.
White also won for Most Outstanding Web Page Design for grades 11 and 12, the Most Outstanding ExxonMobil Team Presentation Award and the Most Outstanding Engineering Project/Design Team Award.
Her team presentation teammates were Riyon Jack and Rachel Philson, of Southern Laboratory School, and Justin Boudreaux, of Greenbriar High School in Chesapeake, Va.
Her engineering project/design teammates were Philson, Keltrin Burrell II, of Scotlandville Magnet High School; Christian Primus, of Northeast High School; Jacob McCall, of Zachary High School; Julian Oubre, of Christian Life Academy; and Taryn Carter, of West Feliciana High.
Other area winners included Ngozi Nwabueze, of West Feliciana High School, for Most Outstanding in Advanced Algebra; Philson for Most Outstanding in Critical Thinking for grades 11 and 12; Carter for Most Improved in ACT-English; and Primus for Most Improved in ACT-Mathematics.
Horse Show winners named
Kalie Beckers, of Tangipahoa Parish, was the 2012 Horse Premier Exhibitor during the 43rd annual Louisiana 4-H and FFA State Horse Show, coordinated by the LSU AgCenter on July 10-14 in West Monroe,
Beckers received a $500 savings bond and a Premier Exhibitor jacket and belt buckle.
Also at the show, the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association presented $250 to Kristen Domingue, of Lafayette Parish, as the all-around high point winner in timed events in the 13 years and under group.
Area grand champion, first place and second place winners included:
East Feliciana Parish: Elisabeth Dighton, Ground Work (13 and Under) first place.
Iberville Parish: Ryan Persick, Breakaway Roping (14 and Over) second place, Tiedown Roping (14 and Over) first place and Team Penning second place (with Hunter Bourque, of Vermilion Parish and Cole Denise, of Iberia Parish).

St. Landry Parish: Katelyn Spears and Hannah McMillan, Team Demonstrations, (Senior Division) second place; Troy Rideau and Eddie Johnson (with Noah Roheim, of St. Tammany Parish) Team Penning first place.
St. Martin Parish: Jennifer Broussard, Pole Bending (14 and Over) first place; Shanon Doucet, Any Other Breed and Grade Horse Mare grand champion.
Tangipahoa Parish: Kalie Beckers, Public Speaking second place, Dressage (14 and Over) second place, Hunter Seat Equitation (14 and Over) second place and Arabian Horse Gelding grand champion; Amanda Boe, Individual Demonstration (Senior Division) first place; Robert Straughan, Tiedown Roping (13 and Under) second place; Luke Addison, Pole Bending (14 and Over) second place.
Glasgow wins 3 Beta awards
At the 16th annual National Junior Beta Club Convention this summer in Greensboro, N.C., Glasgow Middle School’s team walked away with three awards: Quiz Bowl team, second place; Math, fourth place, student Alexander Li; and Poster team, fifth place.
The quiz bowl team members were Lucia Lian, Stefan D’Sa, Khoi Truong and Jerry Xu, and poster team members were Cecelia Li and David Luo.
