2 cadets complete first air solo flights for pilots’ licenses

Two Civil Air Patrol Cadets with the Capitol City Composite Squadron in Baton Rouge, Cadet Senior Airman Ian Woldt, 16, and Cadet Airman Chris Orr, 17, recently completed their first solo flights in pursuit of their Federal Aviation Administration Private Pilot licenses through the patrol’s Cadet Flight Training Program.

Last week, Orr, the son of Chris and Heidi Israel and David Orr, of Baton Rouge, completed his final oral and flight test to earn his license, and then received his wings on Monday. The new Central Private School graduate plans to enter the Aviation Program at Louisiana Tech University this summer.

Woldt, the son of Dan and Danielle Woldt, lives in Norwood, where he is home schooled.

He expects to take his final flight test in June after he turns 17.

Firm gives scholarships

Dudley DeBosier Injury Lawyers in Baton Rouge recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to several college-bound seniors.

Students were chosen to receive the award based on a combination of criteria including high-performing academic records, quality of writing, and demonstration of financial need.

“Each of the students that were selected shared their unique story of how they have been successful in life in spite of facing some tough challenges,” said Chad Dudley, a partner at Dudley DeBosier.

The scholarship recipients include: Humberto Alexander Jr., of Dutchtown High School, the son of Melanie and Humberto Alexander Sr.; Waco Bickham, of West Feliciana High School, the son of Jennifer Bickham and Dusty Bickham; Kevin Bokun, of Walker High School, the son of Annette and Todd Bokun; Jude Bumgardner, of Central High School, the son of Elisha Whitstone and John Bumgardner; Heather Dickinson, of Walker High School, the daughter of Barbara Gallo and Stuart Dickinson; Addison Hilliard, of Denham Springs High School, the son of Jennie and Jeff Hilliard; Holly LeBeau, of St. Amant High School, the daughter of Tracy and Jimmy LeBeau; Hally Leick, of Port Allen High School, the daughter of Christina Bodin and Paul Leick; Autumn Rounds-Knox, of Central High School, the daughter of Amber Rounds; and David Zhang, of Baton Rouge Magnet High School, the son of Shaoqing Guo and Zhongjie Zhang.

Catholic teen wins award

Clinton “Clint” Craig, 14, has won a scholarship from the Louisiana Catholic Daughters of the Americas State Court, announced the daughters’ Court Regina Coeli No. 2063 in Baton Rouge.

Craig, the son of Pattie and D. Porter Craig, recently finished the eighth-grade at St. Aloysius Catholic School and plans to attend Catholic High School in the fall.

He received $200 with a certificate during the Court Regina Coeli No. 2063 meeting this month at St. Jude Catholic Church.

At the meeting, the Baton Rouge court also announced winners of its Education Contest. They were Cora Barhorst, St. Aloysius; Maurie Morris, St. Jude the Apostle School; Joshua Littleton, Glasgow Middle School; Alexandra Thibodeaux, St. Jude; Rebecca Wannamaker, St. Aloysius; Meredith Williams, Redemptorist High School; Arthur Chassaignac, St. Aloysius; and Kennedy Benjamin, St. Jude.
