A Teen's Take: Sophie Seba

Oon representing teens through the Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council

“Drinking is a very big issue among teens because everyone is pressured to do it and a lot of them are not able to say ‘no.’ When a teen gives me information that we have not yet discussed at one of our meetings, I contact our sponsor and have it put on our agenda so that we as a council can discuss it. The Legislative Youth Advisory Council’s purpose is to let the teens of Louisiana know that if they have someone to talk to about their issues, that we will work very hard to fix them.”

She was queen of the Children’s Carnival Ball in New Orleans and was presented as a lady-in-waiting at the Caliphs of Cairo Ball, also in New Orleans. She is an acolyte at Trinity Episcopal and cooks and shops in her spare time. As part of her involvement as an alternate member of the Legislative Youth Advisory Council, she helped arrange for state Rep. Foil has young children so I know that he will be able to get down to students’ level, and that he will actually care about their concerns and ideas.”
