Dance audition signups now under way at various locations

Dancers can begin signing up for an opportunity to perform classical dance in area libraries, youth camps, community centers and other locations.

Youth Ballet auditions for dancers ages 10 through 14 will be held at 1 p.m. March 25 at Dancers’ Workshop, 10745 Linkwood Court.

Youth Ballet will also host about 30 free performances at retirement centers, nursing homes and other locations.

The 2012 Youth Ballet summer tour runs from June 4 through June 15. This season, Youth Ballet will perform “Graduation Ball,” a light-hearted, comic ballet that tells the story of Viennese young ladies and military cadets at their college graduation ball.

Kohl’s offers scholarships

Kohl’s Department Stores will begin accepting nominations from Feb. 1 through March 15 for outstanding young volunteers in the 2012 Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program. Nominations for students ages 6 to 18 can be placed at http://www.kohlskids.com. Nominators must be 21 years or older. Kohl’s will award more than 2,200 young volunteers with $440,000 in scholarships and prizes.

Two nominees will win a $50 Kohl’s gift card; 200 winners will win regional scholarships worth $1,000 toward post-secondary education and 10 national winners will be awarded a total of $10,000 in scholarships for post-secondary education and Kohl’s will donate $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on each national winner’s behalf.

The Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program is part of Kohl’s Cares, Kohl’s philanthropic program focused on improving the lives of children.

Museum has history contest

The West Baton Rouge Museum is hosting the regional competition for Louisiana’s National History Day.

Students are invited to research and draw conclusions about the significance in history of this year’s topic and theme: “Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History.” Students may present their work as a paper, an exhibit, performance or as a website. Regional competition involving 11 surrounding parishes will be held on March 24.
