Modeling women’s shoes for sexual trauma awareness

'Hunks in Heels'

The legs were hairy and the toes definitely not manicured in chic, rich-girl red, but that didn’t stop a dozen local men from stepping into a pair of sky-high heels for the first-ever “Hunks in Heels” runway show benefiting STAR.

Each man had his own reason — some have known victims; others to help protect women — for strutting the runway Sept. 19 to raise money for the Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response Center.

There were sexy red-patent, peep-toe pumps; jeweled evening sandals; and fashion-forward stiletto shooties.

Emcees for the evening were Whitney Vann and Leonard Augustus. Judges were Amy Strother, Josh Holder and William Roy.

STAR is the recently renamed Rape Crisis Center, which was founded in 1975.

Its mission is to provide support, education and advocacy to empower all individuals and families affected by sexual trauma, and to engage and mobilize the community to prevent sexual violence. The local 24-hour hotline is (225) 383-7273.
