Style File for June 5, 2012

William Evans

NAME: William Evans

AGE: 40

OCCUPATION: Owner of Abat-Jour Interiors

Tell us about what you’re wearing.

“A navy pin-stripe sports jack with a gray summer sweater and glen plaid linen slacks — all from Banana Republic. My white shoes are Steve Madden, which I’m wearing without socks; the white belt is Guess.”

What’s the best fashion advice you’ve ever gotten?

“One time when I was wearing this really interesting silk embroidered shirt at a Christmas party, someone told me that I obviously marched to the beat of my own drum but that I totally pulled it off. I have the ability to come up with something different at (the) last minute and not be tacky. If I think about it too long I’ll second guess myself and won’t pull it off.”

What’s your favorite trend now?

“I’m loving the skinny jeans and slacks, no socks with bucs and tapered shorts because I don’t like baggy stuff. This look is form-fitting and makes you look better, but that’s just me.”

Finish this sentence. I splurge on...

“Shirts, I like shirts — a lot. Most of mine have some kind of military influence — epaulets, flaps on pockets.”

I skimp on...

“Nothing; if I want it, I just get it.”

Are you a shoe or bag kind

of guy?

“I have a thing for overnight bags, messenger bags, briefcases, all kinds of bags. I have about 30 total. Guess it goes back to that military influence; I like things with buckles, things that snap.”

Name a celebrity whose closet you’d like to raid.

“Ian McGregor’s or Ben Affleck’s.”

What was your worst fashion mistake?

“I used to wear a lot of bright, vivid color shirts with wording on them. Do you remember Chess King? It had its own line and they had all these kind of weird images, but I bought into it.”

Your house is on fire and you can grab only one thing out of your closet; what would it be? “My Ralph Lauren briefcase, I love it! It’s much more like a messenger bag than a briefcase, but it’s where I keep my wallet, my checkbook — it’s a man purse for me.”
