I’ve talked to many people who swear by the appliance for ease of cooking while vacationing. I can still smell the roast cooking when we vacationed in a cabin in the Smoky Mountains many years ago. For some reason, it smelled even better in the cabin after a long day of sightseeing. Pick recipes that are both hearty and good for leftovers. Having food left for another day is a gift when vacationing. It means the cook takes a full day off dinner planning and just relaxes. Many cabin or condo rentals these days include a slow cooker. Claudia Calverley put one in her beach condo because she knew how useful the appliance was firsthand. “I knew I wanted one for people to use in the condo because I carried one around every time we traveled,” she said. With beach rentals, restaurants are usually more crowded at night, she said, so they often went out for lunch and ate dinner at the condo, she explained. “I would put the Crock-Pot on in the morning and when we were ready to eat, it was done,” she said.
