Recipe is provided by Mary Guzzardo.1 cup shortening11/4 cups sugar4 eggs1 tbl. almond extract or 2 tbls. vanilla extract3 tsps. baking powderPinch of salt5 cups flour1. Cream together shortening, sugar, eggs and extracts. Blend baking powder, salt and flour into mixture.2. Work dough well until smooth. Break off pieces and roll into a rope. Cut rope into 2-inch pieces and press into rectangular shape.3. Place on a greased cookie sheet and bake in a preheated 350-degree oven for about 15-20 minutes. Cool. Ice or leave plain.
