Julie Kay March 20, 2013 Comments There isn’t anything more basic than Chicken Noodle Soup. For seniors like 89-year-old Leonard Rachal, basic home-style cooking is just what’s needed. Many from the generation that truly enjoyed the home-cooked meal experience have told me of the loss they felt when their cooking spouse died. They miss the smells so associated with meal preparation, along with the sheer loss of a loved one’s companionship. The slow cooker is not intimidating to those without kitchen experience, young or old. It’s just as easy for college students experiencing their first cooking attempts away from home as for a widow or widower trying his or her hand in the kitchen for the first time. The recipe for Chicken Noodle Soup is not only easy, but also a great dish for anyone suffering with the flu or a cold. Leftovers are no problem. Rachal said he likes to freeze meals in portion-sized containers. “I like to cook some, plus I have a lot of time. It’s kind of like a hobby,” he said.
