Best of the Best

The Food team caps off this year of celebrations with a lineup of the best local recipes shared by great cooks.

The Best of the Best honor is given to those recipes that readers rave about — the best things stirred, smelled and eaten
during 2012.

Among the things we had to celebrate are Louisiana’s great food culture with traditional favorites like White Beans and Shrimp and Tim’s Simple Marinated Crab Claws; a smorgasboard of fresh, local ingredients like those found in Tomato Basil Soup and Sylvia’s Fresh Peach Pie; recipes that celebrate a patchwork of south Louisiana’s vibrant ethnic communities, like Pan de Jámon and Caponata; and, of course, things to satisfy our sweet tooth, like Nutella Cream Cheese Brownies and Coffee and Walnut Cake

We made a decision several years ago to limit the Best of the Best selections to dishes featured January through November since the end-of-the-year recipes are fresh on everyone’s mind and usually holiday-focused. We hope you like our choices just as much as we did.
