Mom’s Fruit Salad

Serves 6. Recipe is from Dan Currier.

1 (8-oz.) can pineapple tidbits

1 (11-oz.) can mandarin oranges

1 (30-oz.) can extra cherry fruit cocktail

1 (10.5-oz.) pkg. minimarshmallows

1 (8-oz.) pkg. cream cheese

1/2 cup milk

1 packet Dream Whip, prepared according to package directions

1/2 cup chopped walnuts, optional

1. Pour the pineapple, oranges and fruit cocktail into a colander. Drain overnight.

2. Put the marshmallows, cream cheese and milk into a heavy pot. Melt over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, until smooth. Transfer to a large mixing bowl and set aside to cool.

3. Gently fold Dream Whip into cooled marshmallow mixture. Add fruit and walnuts, if using, and stir to combine. Refrigerate 24 hours before serving.
