Eat Your Vegetables: Tomato-basil soup

Tomato basil soup has become popular with all ages in recent years.

We can still get good tasting tomatoes and, hopefully, with all the rain our basil plants are still producing. This recipe for Garden Tomato and Basil Soup is easy to make. The soup simmers for just 15 to 20 minutes before fresh basil is added and the soup is pureed or blended until smooth.

The soup’s ingredients inspired the flavors for Lay’s Garden Tomato & Basil potato chips.

In fact, Lay’s is sponsoring a “Do Us a Flavor” contest until Oct. 6 in which contestants are asked to submit their dream potato chip flavor.

The grand prize winner receives either $1 million or 1 percent of his or her flavor’s 2013 net sales, whichever is higher. There is no purchase necessary; get full details and official rules at www.facebook.com/lays.
