Pizza alternative wins grand prize

A California grandmother won the grand prize — a trip for two to Italy — in the 2012 Bays English Muffins Pizza Challenge for her Gorgonzola and Pear Pizza recipe, Bays Corp.

Peggy Linberg, of Upland, Calif., said her recipe, which combines slices of fresh pears, walnuts, Gorgonzola and Italian cheeses, is easy enough for her two grandsons to make. She created the recipe as an alternative to a pizza with the traditional ingredients of red sauce and mozzarella cheese.
